Golf came before the bodywork.

At Valderrama, the game began, you could say, in the administration department — members, members’ guests, visitors, statistics. That’s where I learned the first principles of this complex and demanding game, on one of the courses that has shaped golf in Europe. During my 5 years there, I lived through several Volvo Masters and had the great privilege of experiencing the 1997 Ryder Cup from the inside.

I then went on to run the golf department at the Kempinski Resort Bahía Estepona for 8 years, before spending time at Bad Saarow (Faldo Berlin) in 2000, where I experienced the Eisenhower Trophy. The World Amateur Team Championships, held on the Nick Faldo and Arnold Palmer courses at Sporting Club Berlin, Bad Saarow, brought together 59 participating countries. The hotel was managed at the time by the Kempinski chain.

After that unforgettable experience in Bad Saarow, came Elba Palace Golf, Fuerteventura.

The adapted golf school for young players opened in 2007 at Club de Golf La Cañada, in Guadiaro. I had the pleasure of helping set it up as Director at the time. La Cañada itself was also born from a project of inclusion — a Robert Trent Jones Sr. design, created to grow the very strong local following.

In 2009, for two years, I was a tutor for the Golf Management training group at the CIOMijas School of Hospitality, run by the Junta de Andalucía.

And so I completed nearly two decades in the golf and hospitality industry.

The turning point

The onset of primary lymphedema in my left arm changed the direction of my working life. It forced me onto a new path with my own body — a new relationship with effort, with demands, and with my working life.

That was the start of my interest in bodywork. For more than 15 years I have studied, researched and taught — and I’m still studying, because this, like almost everything, is a work in progress: Scaravelli Yoga, Shiatsu, Qi Gong, Traditional Chinese Medicine, the Feldenkrais Method, Body-Mind Centering®.

As you can see, golf was never left behind — it simply changed angle.

Where golf and somatic practice meet

Having worked in administration, teaching, management, and 16 years in the world of somatic bodywork, I understand the demands of the game and the somatics that surround it — not as an outside observer, but from having been inside it for most of my working life.

That’s what stands behind this work: I know what is really asked of a player’s body over four hours, over a season, over a career of repetition toward the same side.

If you’re a golfer looking to protect your longevity and sustainability in the game, this is a good place to start.
