What is Reflexology?

Reflexology is a help within complementary therapies for everything to flow better.
When applied, the first sensations that are perceived are: relaxation, liberation, well-being, increased energy and overall vitality.
In recent years, this therapy has become an increasingly valued wellness treatment, offering children, young people and adults real support during processes of change, stress, worry or chronic pathologies.

I share with you my experience from within: the importance of this technique, its benefits and the criteria that are taken into account. You don’t have to be a doctor or a nurse to be a good reflexologist.

Reflexology in Spain

The integration of reflexology sessions for patients and families in Spanish hospitals has experienced significant growth in recent years. This approach aligns with a more consolidated model of holistic care in the UK, where since the late 1990s this complementary therapy is offered in hospitals with the aim of promoting the integral well-being of the family unit, not just the patient.

As the Hospital Sant Joan de Déu in Barcelona points out:
“This contributes to humanizing the experience of illness and strengthening the bond with families, integrating safe and respectful complementary therapies into the care process.”

What does reflexology bring to the receiver?

Reflexology offers a deeply human contact. On the one hand, it contributes to improving the well-being of children, young people and their families, helping to alleviate the pain, anxiety or stress that accompany difficult processes. But, above all, it provides moments of calm, of friendly contact and emotional well-being. When I went through a very challenging time, I could not extend loads of empathy to others as my window of resilience had been narrowed. So the need to rebalance through reflexology is my go to treatment.

On the emotional level, the impact is usually deeper. Reflexology offers a space in which the person can relax, feel safe and cared for. Anxiety decreases and calm appears. During the session, the person reconnects with their body from well-being, not from pain, worry or illness.

What are the benefits?

The reflexology massage has the particularity of accompanying the person from close up, but with a certain distance, working through the feet. This gives it a gentle and non-invasive character, and, why not say, pleasurable with an individualized approach adapted to each person at their specific moment. So when we go through overwhelming and challenging situations.

Anyone who needs spaces of calm, a really kind contact and wellness. Seeking good and positive sensations. It is especially indicated for those suffering from lymphedema, fluid retention, arthritis, asthma, chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia or are in hormonal transition processes.
